EDUCATION PROJECT FOR GIRLS OF ZETA-1, SAKIPUR VILLAGE, UP

Sakipur Village is in Bisrakh Block of Gautam Buddha Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh State of India. It belongs to Meerut Division. It is located 17 KM towards North from District headquarters Noida.

The villages have poor facilities and are quite unhygienic. Basic amenities and facilities such as electricity, water, toilets, drainage and proper sanitation- are inadequate. The average size of families is 5-6 persons per family and sometimes even more.

The village has a strong patriarchal influence and village families pamper boys whereas girls are neglected. The school drop-out rate is higher due to poor study environment and parent’s indifferent attitude towards girl’s education.

“The Centre for Excellence” caters 120+ needy girls of grade 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th, to address their educational needs so that they can complete their schooling successfully. The goal of the project is to empower the girls from the villages of Greater NOIDA through education and digital literacy, for sustainable human and economic development.

The project aligns itself with the Sustainable Development Goals viz. SDG#3 Nutrition, SDG#4 - Quality Education: "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong opportunities for all” and SDG#5 – Gender equality; "Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls."

Co-curricular activities, celebrations, sports, awareness, health camps are also a part of the project.

Aarohan works towards instilling the right kind of skills amongst these girls which could help them with financial independence and an ability to support their families.

Aarohan also works with families especially the mothers to create awareness about various government schemes for the girl-child, the legal age of marriage, and sensitize them about violence against women including domestic violence, dowry-related atrocities, sexual crimes vis-à-vis women’s rights and legal options.
