Transgender
”Right to a Safe and Dignified Life”

Aarohan undertook the outreach program for Transgender with the support of Delhi States AIDS Control Society (DSACS) since 2012 in North West areas of Delhi- Sultanpuri, Mangolpuri, and Nangloi.

The project activities include training to outreach workers to spread awareness about risks involved in unsafe sex, STIs/RTIs, HIV/AIDS; safe sex promotion (condom use); regular health check-ups (STIs/RTIs) including blood tests; personalized counseling (sexual health), counseling to solve their problems and distributing free condoms.

A Drop-In center is run to help them share time with their peers. High-risk groups are identified through regular checkups as most of the beneficiaries admittedly work as sex workers for earning.

Aarohan is tirelessly working for the rights of transgender through collaborations with individuals, organizations, and Government departments (National Human Rights Commission) to provide them opportunities and to bring them into mainstream society.

In order to bring them to mainstream society and provide life with dignity- workshops on Financial Literacy, General Awareness and Personality Upkeep and Skill Trainings in Beauty Culture and Therapy, Fashion Shows, Dance are provided and encouraged.

Aarohan is committed to:

  • To provide the opportunities to share common platforms with the mainstream community.
  • Advocacy and Awareness for the Rights of Transgender, both the sides, Transgender and Mainstream.
  • Generate Job opportunities.
  • Confidence building.

With the holistic support, motivation, and skill training, the change stories of Nirjara, Preeti, and Alina… have made Aarohan proud.
