Campaign to inoculate high risk Transgender & Sex Workers
The campaign was initiated to provide a safety shield to transgender as it has been noticed that they were trapped into a situation of helplessness due to unawareness and unnoticed. Many of the community members were struggling for survival and mental health. A focused campaign was planned to provide support to the transgender community to combat with the crisis of Covid-19 pandemic with awareness, counseling and vaccination. The community members were supported with Dry Ration, Hygiene Kits.
It was also ensured that each of the community members is fully vaccinated.
For mass awareness, an auto rickshaw was hired a pre recorded message, community members and the children were encouraged to participate to aware the mass about adapting Covid like behavior to overcome the vaccination hesitancy.
A special vaccination centre was set up for the transgender community on 22nd June at 908 Bus Terminal, New Delhi- 110086. The camp was again organized for second dose on 16th September onwards with the support of CFAR and DLSA.
According to data of national AIDS control program of the health and family welfare ministry at least 55,633 female sex workers and 9, 496 transgender persons are living in Delhi. They are considered members of the high risk groups. The campaign for vaccination was part of the initiative launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs to inoculate people from high risk category.
The response of unique has been overwhelming. It was supported by Delhi State Legal Service Authority and CFAR.
